My Future As A School Counselor - 1605 Words

Introduction In 2006, 5% of children ages 4 – 17 were reported to have serious difficulties with emotions, concentration, behavior, or being able to get along with other people. Among the parent of children with serious (definitive or severe) difficulties, 84% reported contacting a health care provider or school staff about their child’s difficulties, 49% reported their child with prescribed medication, and 44% reported their child had received treatment other than medication (Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, 2008). Theories of counseling are based on a theoretical framework of understanding, interpretation, and integrity. It is not a matter of a theory being â€Å"right or â€Å"wrong,† as every theory offers a unique contribution to understanding human behavior and has unique implications for counseling practice (Corey, 2013). My Future as A School Counselor As I envision my future as a school counselor, I will be providing services and support to students with mental health needs experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional disturbance. I will be working full time for the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) conducting individual and group counseling, family referrals, case management, school site intervention, crisis response, and risk assessment.
